Therapy can help…

Physical health and Mental Health are intertwined...

You may be feeling uncomfortable, on-edge or anxious . . . You may be finding yourself developing unhealthy habits . . . You may be starting to avoid certain activities because of feeling uncomfortable . . . You may be finding yourself staying up late or lying awake at night . . . You may find that pain or chronic illness is affecting your mood or relationships.

These are signs of stress, which has negative effects on our minds and bodies.

If you have a physical injury, sleep problems, or have health issues, such as obesity, diabetes, chronic pain or hypertension, the impact of stress is multiplied. Anxiety and depression make it harder to take care of your health, and the physical impact of stress on your body is even greater. Talking to a psychologist who is an expert in these issues can help you feel better.

  • Meet Dr. Shay

I am a board-certified Clinical Health Psychologist. This means that I have passed a rigorous review by the American Board of Professional Psychology, and that my work is based on scientific principles and standards.

Clients tell me that I am easy to talk to, and they appreciate that I approach each person’s story with compassion, humor and respect.

If you are being treated by other providers for a physical condition, I am happy to collaborate with them. Many mental health professionals are used to working in isolation, but I believe in a team approach, and will communicate with your providers if you request it.

My treatment approach is practical and problem-focused. I try to partner with clients and inform them of my goals and impressions. I often use a type of therapy called Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy which is focused on taking concrete steps to address present problems. Above all, I try to understand your goals and values and assist you in problem-solving, increasing awareness and developing skills and adaptive strategies. I have special expertise in working with people with physical challenges or illness. Because I believe that true health involves physical and mental well-being, I also work on healthy lifestyle changes with any of my clients who request it.
